dc.description.abstractThe title of research is : Tema Umpasa masyarakat Simalungun : A systemic functional linguistic assessment. The objective of this research is to describle structure, type and elements of Tema, also social context of Simalungun’s umpasa. The data is taken from printed or documented resources (Purba,2001), and then data is analyzed based on Systemic Functional Linguistic Theory (LFS) developed by Halliday, Saragih and related LFS ex perts. The result of research indicates that the most dominant type of Tema in Simalungun’s umpasa is non-prevalent plural Tema, 43 %, and Interpersonal Tema, i.e., emphatic adverbial, 35 % and umpasa of Simalungun occurs in social context including situation context, cultural and ideology.en_US
