dc.description.abstractThis thesis contains a study of comparative literature which involves two literary works from two different nations with similar motifs, which is Dissociative Identity Disorder. The aim of this study is to find out how Dissociative Identity Disorder is portrayed in the two literary works, to find out what are the causes of it, also to find out what are the impacts of it to the main characters‘ live and to find the similarities and differences regarding the issue in forms of Dissociative Identity Disorder that the main characters are suffering from using Dissociative Identity Disorder‘s theory by American Psychiatric Association through the fifth edition of The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-V). Both main characters of the two literary works, Ashley Patterson and Alice Jamieson are suffering from Dissociative Identity Disorder. The study also involves looking at the intrinsic elements to look at the similarities and differences found in the two literary works. In completing the analysis, the writer uses descriptive qualitative method which represents all the data in forms of words and sentences. The writer collects data from various sources including Tell Me Your Dreams by Sidney Sheldon, Today I am Alice: Nine Personalities, One Tortured Mind by Alice Jamieson, relevant books, articles and journals to support the analysis. Based on the results of the analysis it can be concluded that the two literary works show similarities and differences regarding Dissociative Identity Disorder that is experienced by the two main characters of both literary works. Ashley only has 3 of the 6 symptoms of Dissociative Identity Disorder while Alice experiences all six. This is also influenced by the causes of Dissociative Identity Disorder that they experience that causes different impacts of Dissociative Identity Disorder that both characters experience in their lives.en_US
dc.description.abstractSkripsi ini berisi tentang studi sastra bandingan menggunakan dua karya sastra dari negara yang berbeda dengan motif yang sama, yaitu kepribadian ganda. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana kepribadian ganda dalam dua karya sastra tersebut, menemukan penyebab dari kepribadian ganda, melihat akibat dari kepribadian ganda terhadap kehidupan kedua karakter utama dan menemukan persamaan dan perbedaan terkait masalah ini menggunakan teori kepribadian ganda oleh American Psychiatric Association melalui The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders edisi ke-5 (DSM-V). Karakter utama dari masing-masing karya sastra, Ashley Patterson dan Alice Jamieson sama-sama mengidap kepribadian ganda. Studi ini juga melihat unsur intrinsik untuk melihat persamaan dan perbedaan yang ditemukan didalam kedua karya sastra. Dalam menyelesaikan analisis ini, penulis menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif karena semua data disampaikan dalam bentuk kata-kata dan kalimat. Penulis mengumpulkan data dari berbagai sumber termasuk novel Tell Me Your Dreams oleh Sidney Sheldon, Tell Me Your Dreams and Today I am Alice: Nine Personalities, One Tortured Mind oleh Alice Jamieson, buku, artikel dan jurnal yang berkaitan untuk mendukung analisis. Berdasarkan hasil analisis dapat disimpulkan bahwa kedua karya sastra menunjukkan persamaan dan perbedaan mengenai kepribadian ganda yang dialami oleh kedua karakter utama dari kedua karya sastra. Ashley hanya menunjukkan 3 dari 6 gejala kepribadian ganda sementara Alice mengalami keenam-enamnya. Hal ini juga dipengaruhi oleh penyebab kepribadian ganda yang mereka alami dan juga menyebabkan perbedaan akibat dari kepribadian ganda yang dialami oleh kedua karakter didalam kedua karya sastra ini.en_US
