dc.description.abstract | Pasar Senin is one of the traditional markets located at Kepenghuluan Rantau
Panjang Kiri, Kubu Babussalam subdistrict, Rokan Hilir regency, Riau, with
fairly poor sanitation, seen by the number of disorganized rubbish due to limited
temporary dumping site. This could be a source of disease which could affect the
health condition of sellers. This study was done to analyse the sellers’
characteristics, the knowledge, attitude, and action of sellers on market sanitation
at Pasar Senin, also to analyse the market sanitation and level of fly density. This
was a descriptive study with 67 sellers as samples obtained from total sampling.
Most sellers were female with 35 people (52.2%), age range of 32-47 years with
31 people (46.3%), have been working for more than 10 years with 37 people
(55.2%), working for more than 8 hours per day with 38 people (56.7%), and
income of less than Rp. 3,000,000 with 42 people (62.7%). The knowledge and
attitude of sellers were at good category, 80.6%, and 77.6%, respectively, while
the action was poor, 91.0%. The assessment score showed that the market
sanitation did not meet the health requirements as the score was only 20.7%. The
measurement for fly density were very high at fishmonger stalls with an average
of 33. It is recommended for the private sectors who organize the market to
provide adequate facilities for market sanitation, and for sellers to maintain the
cleanliness by appropriate rubbish disposal and provide individual garbage bin in
each stall, not smoking or eating within the area while working, and to do health
check at least once every 6 months to ensure the health status and safety when
carrying out the work. | en_US |
