Plastic is a material made from naphtha which is a derivative of petroleum obtained from the refining process. Plastic waste in the environment takes a long time to degrade Unlike organic waste which is easier to decompose due to the help of decomposition by microorganisms in the soil According to the Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD) Global Plastic Outlook report, the world produced 353 million tons of plastic waste in 2019, this figure has more than doubled since 2000. This study aims to analyze the results of utilizing plastic waste into alternative fuels using the pyrolysis method in an effort to reduce the volume of plastic waste using the pyrolysis method and the addition of natural zeolite. This type of research is experimental research by burning the pyrolysis method and adding natural zeolite as a catalyst. The oil from the pyrolysis combustion comes from 200 grams of Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) plastic waste with six experiments that will go through the process of analyzing combustion time, combustion temperature, volume, density, viscosity, weight comparison before and after, when burned, and flame tests. The results of pyrolysis combustion produce an average of 27.3 ml of oil without a catalyst, while with a catalyst it produces 88.67 ml. The quality of the oil produced has an average density of 870 Kg/m3 for combustion without a catalyst, while with a catalyst it is 864.6 Kg/m3 equivalent to gasoline fuel. The viscosity of pyrolysis combustion is obtained on average 1.31 cP without a catalyst and 1.05 cP with a catalyst equivalent to kerosene fuel. It is recommended to carry out the latest innovations and create more adequate pyrolysis equipment in further pyrolysis method combustion research.
