The Description of Metaphor in William Wordsworth’s Selected Poems

Abstract

This study describe type of metaphor used in William Wordsworth selected poems. In this study researcher also describe function and meaning of metaphor used in William Wordsworth poems. This research used Kovecses‘s theory wich is has three type of metaphor : conceptual metaphor, poetic metaphor and mixed metaphor. The method of study used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method. The result of this research is William Wordsworth's poetry mostly used conceptual metaphors, where in his poems he compares the choice of words used in poetry with the meanings that we understand conceptually. The function of using metaphors in his poetry, apart from beautifying the choice of words, is to expand the meaning so that readers may have different interpretations.
