Background: Hearing loss associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) may be associated with free radical hyperactivity and cause oxidative stress. Curcumin is known to improve targets related to glucose control in the body which plays an important role in diabetes management. Otoacoustic emission (OAE) and pure tone audiometry examinations can be used to assess the picture of hearing loss in T2DM patients. Objective: To prove that curcumin is effective in improving hearing function disorders in patients with T2DM through OAE and pure tone audiometry examinations. Methods: An experimental study was conducted at H. Adam Malik General Hospital Medan with a sample of 48 T2DM patients who met the inclusion criteria. Data collection was carried out through questionnaires, routine ENT examinations, OAE examinations, and pure tone audiometry. Results: The findings of this study found that in the 500 mg curcumin group there was a significant improvement in hearing threshold, while in the 1000 mg curcumin group there was a difference in changes (delta) SNR at most frequencies. Conclusion: In this study, no statistically significant relationship was found regarding the effect of curcumin administration on DMT2 patients with hearing loss from OAE and pure tone audiometry examinations, but it was found that the difference in SNR changes was better in the 1000 mg curcumin group.en_US
