Background: Asthma is a common chronic respiratory disease affecting 1-18% of
the population in many countries. In Asia-Pacific, 7.6% of participants had
controlled asthma, 30% uncontrolled, and 63% partially controlled. The high
population partial control levels of asthma and the lack of data related to the level
of control of asthma, especially in Prof. Chairuddin Panusunan Lubis Hospital
Objective: The goal is to determine the effectiveness difference between
Salmeterol/Fluticasone Propionate and Formoterol Fumarate Budesonide
towards the level of asthma control with ACQ-GINA criteria.
Methods: An analytic cohort retrospective study was performed by using 61
medical records subjects from January 1, 2017, to December 31, 2019. The subjects
had moderate persistent asthma and received Fluticasone/Salmeterol and
Budesonide/Formoterol therapy for at least three months. All data will be
subjected to statistical testing by using the Fisher-exact test.
Result: The statistical test showed no significant difference between the
administration of both groups, Salmeterol/Fluticasone Propionate and Formoterol
Fumarate/Budesonide, on the level of asthma control (p=0,057).
Conclusion: Both Salmeterol/Fluticasone Propionate and Formoterol
Fumarate/Budesonide combination have no difference in effectiveness in affecting
the level of asthma control.
