Analysis of The Influence of The Development of Information and Communication Technology on Income Inequality in Indonesia
Abstract
This study aims to analyze and see the effect of the development of information and communication technology on income inequality in Indonesia. This type of research is quantitative and performs statistical analysis to test the research hypothesis with time series data used from 1992-2022. The method of analysis used in this study is the Autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) model.
The results show that in the short run, the number of people with cellular phones has a positive effect on income inequality. In contrast, the proportion of individuals using the internet and average years of schooling have a negative effect on income inequality, although average years of schooling in the first and second lags have a positive impact. In the long run, the number of people owning a mobile phone and the proportion of individuals using the internet have a significant positive effect on income inequality. Meanwhile, average years of schooling has a negative effect on income inequality.
