Introduction: The incidence of hypotension in spinal anesthesia techniques will affect the hemodynamics of pregnant women and the safety of the fetus if it’s not treated. The use of phenylephrine and ephedrine can prevent hypotension in pregnant women. Further research still needed to be done to determine the effective dose of these two vasopressors. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of phenylephrine 100mcg and ephedrine 10mg as prophylaxis to prevent spinal anesthesia-induced hypotension in pregnant women undergoing cesarean section. Methods: This study used a double-blind, randomized clinical trial. The sample consisted of 40 samples divided into 2 groups, namely 20 people in the phenylephrine group and 20 people in the ephedrine group. Patients with multiple fetuses, preterm pregnancy, allergies to local anesthetic drugs, absolute and relative contraindications to spinal anesthesia and emergency caesarean section patients were excluded from this study. Results: There was a significant difference between the administration of phenylephrine and ephedrine prophylaxis on BP, MAP and heart rate at the 5th minute (T1), 10th minute (T2) and 15th minute (T3) (p<0.05). Side effects in the form of nausea and vomiting were more common in the ephedrine 10mg group than in the phenylephrine 100mcg group. Conclusion: Phenylephrine 100 mcg is more effective as a prophylaxis in preventing spinal anesthesia-induced hypotension than ephedrine 10 mg and does not increase heart rate excessively. Side effects in the form of nausea and vomiting were more common in the ephedrine group. There was an increase in heart rate in the ephedrine group.en_US
