| dc.description.abstract | Introduction Periodontitis is an infection-driven inflammatory disease in tooth-supporting tissues associated with dental plaque accumulation. Periodontitis causes free radicals to increase. Periodontitis treatment involves several phases and additional therapy is required. Bromelain enzyme is an active compound that has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant activities. Purpose of this study was to analyse the effect of administration of bromelain enzyme gel at concentrations of 0,1% and 1% on SOD levels in periodontitis-induced rats. Method of this study uses true experimental post-test only control group design. The study involved 25 male wistar rats divided into groups of healthy rats, untreated periodontitis, periodontitis treated with placebo gel, periodontitis treated with 0,1% and 1% bromelain enzyme gel. Wistar rats are induced with periodontitis for 7 days and then treated for 7 days. Determination of SOD levels using ELISA method from wistar rats’ gingival tissue. The results showed that the highest SOD levels were found in the untreated periodontitis group, followed by the healthy rat group, periodontitis rats treated with 1% bromelain enzyme gel, periodontitis rats treated with 0,1% bromelain enzyme gel and periodontitis rats treated with placebo gel. The results of the One Way Anova test showed that there was no significant effect of administration of bromelain enzyme gel at a concentration of 0,1% and 1% on SOD levels in periodontitis-induced model rats (p>0.05). Conclusion of this study is there is an increase on SOD levels in periodontitis-induced rats group treated with bromelain enzyme gel at concentrations of 0.1% and 1% compared to the periodontitis-induced rats group treated with placebo gel. | en_US |
