Mangrove ecosystems have an important role in maintaining environmental balance and sustainability of coastal ecosystems. However, in the last few decades, the mangrove ecosystem has faced serious threats due to the activities of people who depend on mangroves for their livelihoods, such as fishermen and non-timber forest product collectors, who will lose their source of income. The encroachment of mangroves to make mangrove charcoal has serious consequences for the environment and community welfare. The aim of this research is to obtain information on the magnitude of economic losses and the impact of mangrove damage on the economy of fishing communities in Lubuk Kertang village, Langkat Regency. The method used is the Contigent valuation method (CVM). CVM is used to state the value of a good or service. Implementing CVM involves distributing questionnaires to the community to measure the community's willingness to accept compensation (Willingness to Accept, WTA) for the impact of mangrove forest encroachment. The results of this research show that the impacts felt include a decrease in fishermen's income, a reduction in catch production, and an increase in the distance fishermen have to travel to catch crabs. The value of economic losses experienced by fishermen due to mangrove encroachment reached IDR 1,362,000.
