Background: Schizophrenia is the most complex and chronic severe psychiatric disorder with heterogeneous etiologies and variable disease course. Schizophrenia has three main symptoms: positive symptoms, negative symptoms and cognitive symptoms. Genetic and non-genetic factors such as environmental and psychological factors that alter the chemical structure of the brain where, one of the genetic factors is Dopamine. DRD4 is one of the dopamine receptors associated with schizophrenia risk factors. Methods: Sampling used a non-probability sampling, with consecutive sampling type. It is conducted on 200 subjects (100 people with schizophrenia and 100 healthy Batak tribe controls). DNA isolation using salting out method and DRD4 -521 C/T polymorphism examination using PCR method. Results: No significant differences were found between alleles and genotypes in people with schizophrenia and healthy Batak tribe controls in this study. Conclusion: No association between DRD4 -521 C/T gene polymorphism and positive symptoms of schizophrenia in this study.en_US
