This study aims to determine the characteristics of F3 generation corn plants from F2 free crosses which are expected to be useful as a genetic source for the formation of new basic populations as selection material to form the desired varieties. The research was conducted at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of North Sumatra in June-September 2023 using descriptive statistical analysis method. Corn seeds used were pre-mixed seeds and taken randomly. The parameters observed were plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves, stem diameter, male flowering age, female flowering age, difference between male and female flowering age, male flower color, female flower color, and stem hair color. The results showed that the value of phenotypic variation has diverse or broad criteria on the characters of plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, male flowering age and female flowering age. Qualitative observation characters on the color of male flowers and variations between observations, namely purple and green colors and on female flowers there are variations in the color of observations, namely green and white. Qualitative observation characters on stem color have color variations, namely green and yellow. In qualitative observations of feather color there is no variation because it only has one color, namely white.en_US
