Background. The majority of children with COVID-19 were found to
have mild to moderate symptoms with good outcomes, however Indonesia has a
high number of COVID-19 cases and mortalities including in children. Several
parameters of routine blood tests can be used as early predictors of severity and
mortality from COVID-19 in adults, but their use in the pediatric population is still
unknown.
Objective. This study aims to evaluate correlation of Neutrophil-Lymphocyte Ratio
(NLR) to severity of Covid-19 in children aged £ 18 years. Method. Retrospective
analytical research use secondary data of patient from April 2020 to March 2021 and
based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria, the present analysis included 274
participants hospitalized in the referral hospital Medan, North Sumatera. The data were
analysed using chi-square and t-test. The difference will be considered significant if
the p value is < 0.05.
Results. A total of 274 children with COVID-19 confirmed by Polymerase Chain
Reaction (PCR), consisting of 204 non-severe cases and 10 severe cases. The value of
the t-test between two groups, NLR level of severe (2,33 ± 2,56) and non severe group
(1,97 ± 2,65) with p-value 0.68.
Conclusion. The neutrophil lymphocyte ratio can not be used to predict the severity of
children with confirmed COVID-19.
