Background : COPD is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. The
purpose of this study was to determine the pattern of germs in COPD patients with
severe exacerbations in RSUP patients. H. Adam Malik Medan and antibiotics
which are still sensitive according to the results of the sensitivity test.
Method : The design of this study was a descriptive study based on secondary
data on medical records of COPD exacerbations at RSUP H Adam Malik for a
period of 3 years (1 January 2020 to 1 December 2022).
Results : Out of a total of 49 COPD patients who experienced exacerbations
during the study period, 25 types of bacteria were found, consisting of 3 types of
bacteria, which were most common in patients with Severe Exacerbations of
COPD, which were often found, including Klebsiella pneumoniae as much as
40%, then Pseudomonas aeruginosa as much as 32% and Escherichia coli as many
as 12%. Then the antibiotics that are still sensitive to the 3 most germs are
meropenem and amikacin
Conclusion : The most common bacteria in COPD exacerbation patients are
Klebsiella pneumoniae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Then the antibiotics that are
still sensitive to the most germs are meropenem and amikacin. While Empirical
Antibiotics that are often used such as Ceftriaxone and Ciprofloxacine have a low
level of sensitivity.
