Tingkat Pengetahuan dan Sikap Ibu dalam Pencegahan Stunting di Kecamatan Medan Labuhan

Abstract

Background: Stunting is a condition in which a child experiences growth disturbances caused by chronic nutritional problems that remains a health problem in Indonesia. Mother’s knowledge and attitude towards stunting play an important role in preventing stunting in children. Objective: To determine the mother’s knowledge and attitude level for stunting prevention, different test in respondent’s characteristics to mother’s knowledge and attitude for stunting prevention as well as the relationship between mother’s knowledge and attitude for stunting prevention at Medan Labuhan subdistrict. Method: Descriptive cross-sectional study that used questionnaire Suryagustina dkk. (2018) which has been modified to assess the mother’s knowledge and attitude about stunting. Sampling data with stratified random sampling and analyzed with Spearman’s rho test. The collecting data was conducted from October to December 2023. Results: A total of 316 respondents participated in this study (with 99.37% respondent rate). The majority of respondents was aged 26-35 years old (48.42%), senior high school (78.16%), unemployed (92.40%) and family income >IDR 1.500.000 (38.61%). The mother’s knowledge level about stunting was categorized as moderate (55.70%) and the level of attitude was categorized as moderate (57.28%). The Kruskal-Wallis test showed that there was a significant difference between respondent characteristics with the mother’s knowledge and attitude level (p<0.005). The Spearman’s rho test showed that there was a significant relationship between the mother’s knowledge level to the mother’s attitude level with a high correlation (r=0.775). Conclusion: The mother’s knowledge level about stunting was categorized as moderate and the mother’s attitude level about stunting was categorized as good. There was a significant different between respondents characteristics with the mother’s knowledge level about stunting and mother’s attitude level about stunting prevention. There was a significant relationship between the mother’s knowledge level about stunting to mother’s attitude level about stunting prevention with positive correlation at Medan Labuhan subdistrict.
