Background. Hemodialysis is the most commonly performed kidney replacement
therapy. Fatigue is a frequent side effect that can negatively impact the quality of
life for hemodialysis patients. However, family support plays a significant role in
improving their quality of life. Objective. This study assesses the relationship
between family support and fatigue in patients receiving hemodialysis regularly.
Methods. This study used a cross-sectional design with 100 regular hemodialysis
patients at RSUP H. Adam Malik Medan. The sample was taken using consecutive
sampling method, and data were collected through interviews using the Family
Support Questionnaire by Rosyidah and the Functional Assessment of Chronic
Illness Therapy-Fatigue (FACIT-F) questionnaire. Results. Of the 100 hemodialysis
patients, 88% received enough family support, while 12% received poor family
support. The prevalence of fatigue showed that 48% experienced mild fatigue, while
52% experienced moderate to severe fatigue. The Chi-Square test showed a
significant association between age (p=0.002), creatinine levels (p=0.016), and
family support (p=0.021) with fatigue. Multivariate analysis showed the family
support was the most dominant factor influencing fatigue in patients undergoing
regular hemodialysis (OR: 5.137, 95% CI: 0.968-27.261, p=0.055). Conclusion :
Family support is the most dominant factor influencing fatigue in patients
undergoing regular hemodialysis
