Background: Theleaves of Gagatan Harimau (Afrocayratia gracilisWall.) was a traditional medicinal plant typical of the Tanah Karo region of North Sumatrawhich hadenormous potential as amedicinebut not much complete monographicdata hadbeen foundand was not listed in the Indonesian MateriaMedika andIndonesian Herbal Pharmacopoeia. Objective: To haddetermined the pharmacognostic, physicochemical, andphytochemical analysis results of Gagatan Harimau leaves (Afrocayratia gracilisWall.)Methods: This studyused adescriptivemethod with several stages, which weretaking plant material, identifying the plant, making powder, pharmacognosticanalysis, physicochemical analysis and phytochemical analysis. Results: Macroscopic examination obtained 17 specificshapesof Gagatan Harimauleaves. Microscopic examination obtained 8fragments in the simplicia.Ethnobotany obtained 6benefits ofGagatan Harimauleaves by thepeople of NagalinggaVillage, Merek District, Karo Regency. Characteristic examinationobtained a moisturecontent 7,31 ± 1,16 %, water soluble extractive valueof21,05± 0,31 %, ethanolsolubleextractivevalue of 16,22 ± 0,59 %,total ashvalue of 4,08 ± 1,69 %,and acid insoluble ash valueof 0,73 ± 0,32%.Screening examination foundthatthe simplisia contained alkaloid, flavonoid, tannin, saponin, glycoside, andsteroid compound groups. Thetotal flavonoid content of 70% ethanol extract was 12,6267 ± 0,0409 mg QE/g extract. Conclusion:Theresults of the studyconcluded that Gagatan Harimauleaves had17 specificshapesof leaves, 8microscopic fragments of simplicia, 6 benefits of ethnobotanical results, moisturecontent of 6.59%, watersoluble extractivevalueof8.77%, ethanolsoluble extractivevalue of3.88%, total ash valueof4.08%, and acid insoluble ash valueof0.73%, contains alkaloid, flavonoid, tannin, saponin, glycoside, steroid compoundsand hadatotal flavonoid content of 12,6267 ±0,0409 mg QE/gextract.
