dc.description.abstractBackground. In Indonesia, the topic of menstruation is still being thought as shameful, especially on female teenagers. This led to inadequate knowledge on menstruation and dysmenorrhea. Adolescents are undergoing biological and hormonal changes which might cause dysmenorrhea. Sufficient awareness on dysmenorrhea can lead to positive attitude on treating dysmenorrhea. Objective. Discover the level of knowledge and general attitude of 8th grade female students in 1st State Junior High School of Medan. Method. This study employed a descriptive observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 73 respondents, selected by using a simple random sampling technique and analyzed univariately through frequency distribution tables. Results. Among 73 respondents, 33 respondents (45.20%) have sufficient knowledge and 68 respondents (93.15%) have positive attitude. Conclusion. The knowledge level exhibited by 8th grade female students in 1st State Junior High School of Medan is considered sufficient, leading to a positive attitude towards dysmenorrhea. Most respondents are aged 13-14 years old, with an average menarche age of 11 years old, have regular menstrual cycles with a predominant 28-day interval, receive most information from family, and experience dysmenorrhea at a moderate level.en_US
