Uji Aktivitas Antibakteri Belimbing Wuluh (Averrhoa bilimbi Linn.) terhadap Pertumbuhan Isolat Bakteri Methicillinresistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) dari Spesimen Darah Pasien RS H. Adam Malik Medan
Antibacterial Activity Test of Bilimbi Fruit (Averrhoa bilimbi Linn.) on The Growth of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) Bacterial Isolates from Blood Specimens of Patients at H. Adam Malik Hospital Medan
Abstract
Introduction. Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) bacterial infection is
a serious challenge in the medical world. There are secondary metabolites: flavonoids,
saponins, and tannins in Bilimbi fruit that work as antibacterials. Objective. To
determine the antibacterial activity of Bilimbi fruit extract against the growth of stored
isolates of MRSA bacteria originating from clinical specimens of patients at H. Adam
Malik Hospital Medan. Method. Bilimbi fruit was extracted using the maceration
method. There were 6 groups: extract concentrations of 5%, 10%, 20%, 40%, positive
control of 2% chloramphenicol ointment, and negative control of DMSO. The
antibacterial test used the well diffusion method. The diameter of the inhibition zone
formed was measured with a caliper. Results and Discussion. The average diameter of
the inhibition zone formed in the 5% extract was 12.38 mm, 10% extract was 17.15 mm,
20% extract was 22.79 mm, and 40% extract was 27.57 mm. Conclusion. Bilimbi fruit
extract has antibacterial activity against the growth of stored isolates of MRSA bacteria
originating from clinical specimens of patients at H. Adam Malik Hospital Medan.
