Background. The use of gadgets has extended to children and is frequently observed during meals. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends avoiding the use of gadgets during meals due to their potential adverse effects, including Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders (FGID). Objective. To determine the association between screen exposure during meals and Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders (FGID) among students of SD Swasta Muhammadiyah 03 Medan. Methods. This was a cross-sectional study. The participants were students of SD Swasta Muhammadiyah 03 Medan, aged 10-13 years, recruited using a consecutive sampling method. Data were collected using a questionnaire amd analyzed univariately and bivariately with the chi-square of Fisher’s exact test. Results. 84 out of 114 respondents were exposed to screens during meals and 31 of the 84 respondents who were exposed to screens during meals were diagnosed with FGID. Screen exposure did not trigger FGID in this study because there are many underlying factors for FGID, such as low physical activity and psychological factors. Conclusion. There is no significant association between screen exposure during meals and FGID.en_US
