The objective of this research is to understand the education personnel’s knowledge sharing at Universitas Negeri Medan, to analyze their performance, and explain the effect of knowledge sharing on their performance. The research uses an explanative research approach to identify the correlation between the variable of knowledge sharing (X) and the education personnel’s performance (Y). The population consists of 423 education personel, with 195 respondents selected as a samples using Isaac and Michael's table and a proportionate stratified random sampling technique. The data are collected by conducting a survey and interviews using questionnaires, guide by validate and reliable interviews. The questionnaire on knowledge sharing was developed based on the theory of van den Hooff and Hendrix (2004), whereas the questionnaire on performance was developed based on the theory of Robbins (2006). The result of the research suggest that 75% of respondents demonstrate good knowledge sharing, while 18.9% of them are in very good category, and 6.1% of them are in sufficient category. 62.2% of respondents are classified as a good category in performance, and 37.8% of them are in a very good category. The result of regression analysis shows that there is a positive correlation between knowledge sharing and performance, at the equation Y = 15.372 + 0.2X. Correlation value of r = 0.49 indicates that there is moderate correlation between the two variables, with determination coefficient of 24.1%.
