Perceptions of Dating Violence among College Students
Abstract
Dating violence refers to intentional actions in a romantic relationship aimed at
maintaining and gaining control over a partner. This study aims to identify students'
perceptions of dating violence. Perception is defined as how an individual
understands and evaluates various forms of violence in a dating relationship,
including verbal, sexual, and physical abuse. This research employs a descriptive
quantitative method involving 400 participants selected through accidental
sampling. Data was collected using an online questionnaire in the form of Google
Forms. Reliability testing using Guttman’s method yielded a value of 0.957, and all
items had a corrected item-total correlation above 0.30, indicating that the
research instrument is highly consistent. Data analysis reveals that students'
perceptions of dating violence are categorized as less precise, with 254 individuals
(63.5%) falling into this category. These findings provide insight into how students
view and assess dating violence in relationships.
