Background. Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) is one of the most common digestive tract disorders, especially in young populations such as college students. One of the risk factors associated with the occurrence of GERD is Body Mass Index (BMI). Increased BMI has been associated with an increased risk of GERD, but data on this relationship among college students is still limited, especially in the Faculty of Medicine, University of North Sumatra. Objectives. This study aims to analyze the relationship between BMI and the incidence of GERD in FK USU students in the 2021 and 2022 batch. Methods. This study is an analytical study with a cross-sectional approach. In this study, the sampling technique used was simple random sampling. The subjects in this study were students of the Medical Education study program, FK USU, class of 2021 and 2022. Data were obtained by distributing questionnaires directly to FK USU students in the 2021-2022 batch. The questionnaire used was the GERD-Q. The analysis used was univariate and bivariate analysis with chi-square. Results. This study involved 100 respondents, there were 52 people (52.0%) who suffered from GERD, 43 people (29.6%) with obese BMI suffered from GERD, 9 people (22.4%) with normal BMI suffered from GERD, and 34 people (20.6%) with normal BMI did not suffer from GERD, 14 people (27.4%) with obese BMI did not suffer from GERD. The results of statistical analysis showed a relationship between BMI and GERD (p = 0.011). Conclusion. There is a relationship between BMI and the incidence of GERD in USU Medical Faculty students, class of 2021-2022en_US
