Angka Kejadian Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) sebagai Penyebab Central Line-associated Bloodstream Infections (CLABSI) di Rumah Sakit Adam Malik Medan

Abstract

Introduction. Nosocomial infections are infections acquired by patients in the hospital, occurring at or beyond 2 x 24 hours of admission. Central Line-Associated Bloodstream Infections (CLABSI) are a deadly type of nosocomial infection with a mortality rate ranging from 12% to 25%. One of the bacteria cuasing nosocomial infections is Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Objective. This study aims to determine the incidence of MRSA as a cause of CLABSI at Adam Malik Hospital in Medan. Methods. The method used is a descriptive approach by collecting data from medical records of patients diagnosed with CLABSI, confirmed by blood culture results indicating MRSA as the causative agent. The collected data included patient gender, hospital admission date, date of MRSA diagnosis and inpatient ward. Data collection occured from September 2022 to August 2023. Results and Discussion A total of 78 patients were identified with MRSA bacteremia, of which 54 patients (69.2%) were confirmed to have nosocomial CLABSI infections. The majority of these patients were male (52.6%). Most patients were treated in the inpatient wards at Adam Malik Hospital, primarily in Rindu A and Rindu B, accounting for 78%. Conclusion. The incidence rate of nosocomial CLABSI caused by MRSA at Adam Malik Hospital is 69.2%. Immediate action from the hospital is necessary to optimally manage and prevent the spread of MRSA bacteria at Adam Malik Hospital, Medan.
