Introduction. Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease and the second leading
cause of death in the world. The level of treatment adherence of TB patients is
closely related to the quality of life of these patients. Objectives. This study aims
to analyze the relationship between treatment adherence and quality of life of
pulmonary TB patients. Methods. This study is an observational analytic study
with a cross sectional design. The sample in this study was 101 pulmonary TB
patients aged >18 years who were undergoing treatment from August to October
2024 and patients lost to follow up in the period December 2023-May 2024 at the
TB-DOTS polyclinic of Prof. Chairuddin P. Lubis USU Medan Hospital. The
sampling technique used consecutive sampling with direct interviews using the
MMAS-8 and WHOQOL-BREF questionnaires. The analysis used was frequency
distribution analysis, Chi-square test. Results and Discussion. The results of
bivariate analysis using the Chi-square test showed that there was a significant
relationship between treatment compliance with general QOL, general health,
physical domain (p-value <0.05). There is no significant relationship between
treatment compliance with the psychological domain and social relationships (pvalue>
0.05). While in the environmental domain, highly significant results were
obtained (p-value <0.001). Conclusion. There is a significant relationship
between medication adherence with general QOL, general health, physical and
environmental domains but there is no significant relationship between
medication adherence with the psychological domain and the social relationship
domain of quality of life.
