Background. Hair loss (alopecia) is one of the hair problems characterized by a lack of ratio resulting in hair thinning and baldness. Conventional therapy options are still few with many side effects. The use of guava is believed by the community to be useful in overcoming hair loss and baldness. Objective. To analyze the effect of the use of guava leaf ethanol extract in the form of topical formulations of serum and hair tonic on hair growth in rabbit experimental animals. Method. guava leaf ethanol extract was obtained by maceration using 96% ethanol solvent. Furthermore, it was formulated in the form of serum preparations (FS1: 2.5%; FS2: 5%) and hair tonic (FT1: 2.5%; FT2: 5%). FS0 and FT0 as control containing serum base and hair tonic. The treatment was given once a day for 21 days on the back area of rabbits that have been shaved. Observations were made by looking at hair length growth on days 7, 14, 21 and hair weight on day 21. Data analysis using one way ANOVA test with Bonferroni further test, and independent T-test. Result. In the serum group, a significant difference in hair length was found starting on day 7, while in the hair tonic group it was found on day 14 of observation. Hair length in the 5% serum formulation was greater than the 2.5% and 5% hair tonic formulations on days 14 and 21. The effect of ethanol extract of guava leaves on rabbit hair weight was carried out by weighing the weight of hair on the 21st day after treatment. The order of hair weight in the serum group: FS2>FS1>FS0, and in the hair tonic formulation group: FT2>FT>FT0. The hair weight of 5% concentration serum (FS2) was greater than FS1, FS0 and the three serum formulations. Conclusion. Serum formulation of guava leaf ethanol extract with 5% concentration has the greatest effect on hair growth and weight.en_US
