Hubungan Tingkat Pengetahuan dan Pola Penggunaan Earphone Siswa/I SMKN 14 Kelas 12 Medan dengan Kejadian Tinnitus

Abstract

Background. Tinnitus is a ringing sensation in the absence of external sound stimuli. It is not a diagnosis of a disease but a symptom caused by an ear disorder. There are many causes of tinnitus, but the most common is noise exposure. Listening to music using earphones has become a lifestyle for today's youth. The intensity of noise heard through earphones can cause ear disorders when it exceeds the threshold of sound intensity. Aim. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the level of knowledge and the pattern of earphone use of 12th grade students of SMKN 14 Medan with the incidence of tinnitus.. Method: This study used quantitative analytic method with cross-sectional approach. Data were obtained by point time approach method with a total sample of 94. Data were analyzed with univariate and bivariate tests using chi-square through a statistical program. Results. Based on a total of 94 samples, it was found that the most gender was female (52.1%), the most knowledge level was in the moderate knowledge group (43.6%), the most length of earphone use was 0-3 years (76.6%), the frequency of earphone use was more in 1-2 days use (46.8%), and the duration of earphone use was most often in <1 hour duration (46.8%). Bivariate test showed that there was a relationship between the level of knowledge and the pattern of earphone use with the incidence of tinnitus. Conclution. there is a significant relationship between the level of knowledge and the pattern of earphone use of 12th grade students of SMKN 14 Medan with the incidence of tinnitus.
