dc.description.abstractBackground: Diebetes is a chronic metabolic disease that leads to higher risk of cardiovascular disease. Electrocardiogram (ECG) is an early diagnostic tool for cardiovascular disease and is very necessary to prevent the progression of cardiovascular disease. Objective: To identify ECG features in type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) patients based on age, gender, smoking history, history of hypertension, duration of DM, controlled or unconctrolled DM, and DM therapy. Method: Conducted as a descriptive cross-sectional study using consecutive sampling. The samples are type 2 DM patients at the Internal Medicine Clinic RS Adam Malik Medan with the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: Out of the 72 patients, 30 patients (41.7%) had a normal ECG and the rest (58.3%) had an abnormal ECG findings. Abnormal ECG were found most in those aged 50-59 years old with 19 from 32 patients with age 50-59, male, without smoking history, with a history of hypertension, DM duration less than 10 years, uncontrolled DM, and using insulin as a therapy. Conclusion: Most of the type 2 DM patients at the Internal Medicine Clinic Rumah Sakit Adam Malik Medan had an abnormal ECG.en_US
