dc.description.abstractBackground. Stroke is the second leading cause of death and the third leading cause of disability globally and nationally. Knowledge and awareness play an important role in early detection of chronic conditions such as stroke. An overview of risk factors needed to reduce the incidence, disability, and death from stroke by providing information and insight and increasing public awareness of things to watch out for and pay attention to regarding stroke. Objectives. This study aims to determine the description of risk factors for ischemic stroke patients at Prof. Dr. Chairuddin P. Lubis Hospital Medan in 2023. Methods. This study is an observational descriptive study and uses a non-random sampling method by making all populations obtained and meeting the selection criteria into research samples until the required number of samples is met. The data used is secondary data in the form of medical records obtained from Prof. Dr. Chairuddin P. Lubis Hospital in 2023. Results. This study involved 140 ischemic stroke patients consisting of 71 (50.7%) men and 69 (49.32%) women. The age group above 65 years (33.6%), high school graduate (48.6%), and working (57.9%) were the highest prevalence of the subjects studied. There were 64 people (45.7%) who had a history of stroke, 102 people (72.9%) who had a history of hypertension, and 41 people (29.3%) who had a history of diabetes mellitus. Blood pressure was a significant risk factor with 56 people (40%) included in the category of grade 2 hypertension. The most common random blood sugar levels found were in the normal category (80.7%). Conclusion. The majority of hemorrhagic stroke patients were men (50.7%), in the age group above 65 years (33.6%), had a high school education (48.6%), and worked (57.9%). The most common risk factors found were hypertension (72.9%), followed by having a history of previous stroke (45.7%), and having a history of diabetes mellitus (29.3%).en_US
