dc.description.abstractBackground. Odynophagia is still a common complaint suffered by the community. Tonsillitis is one of the infectious diseases that triggers odynophagia complaints due to changes in the anatomical structure of the tonsil area. Tonsillitis can be exacerbated by various factors. Weather conditions and habits of consuming certain foods can be risk factors for tonsillitis. In addition, other habits such as smoking, drinking alcohol, consuming fast food, and other habits can worsen this condition. Objective. To determine the relationship between weather conditions and history of consumption of spicy, oily foods, and cold drinks with tonsillitis in Dairi Regency. Method. This study uses an observational analytical study type with a cross-sectional study design and data obtained through a questionnaire that aims to find the relationship between weather conditions and history of food consumption with the prevalence of tonsillitis in Dairi Regency. The sampling technique in this study used non-probability sampling with consecutive sampling technique. Result. Of the 105 respondents, 72 of them were diagnosed with tonsillitis with a percentage of 68.57%. 48 respondents (45.71%) were diagnosed with tonsillitis and stated that the weather conditions in their environment were cold, 41 respondents (39.05%) were diagnosed with tonsillitis and had a habit of consuming spicy foods, 45 respondents (42.86%) were diagnosed with tonsillitis and had a habit of consuming oily foods, and 32 respondents (30.47%) were diagnosed with tonsillitis and had a habit of consuming cold drinks. Conclusion. There is a significant relationship between the prevalence of tonsillitis and the habit of consuming oily foods and cold drinks. However, there is no significant relationship between the prevalence of tonsillitis and the weather conditions of the residential environment and the habit of consuming spicy foods in the community in Dairi Regency.en_US
