Hubungan Perilaku, Sikap, dan Tindakan terhadap Keberadaan Nyamuk Culicidae di Kecamatan Tanjung Beringin Kabupaten Serdang Bedagai

Abstract

Introduction. Mosquitoes can act as disease vectors that carry microorganisms into the humans’ and animals’ bodies through bites. The diseases that can be transmitted include Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever, Malaria, Filariasis, Chikungunya, and Japanese encephalitis. There are various types of Culicidae mosquitoes that can become disease vectors, such as Aedes sp., Anopheles sp., and Culex sp., which can be identified by the presence of larvae in water containers with certain characteristics. In certain areas of Indonesia, there are endemic regions. In specific cases, there are endemic regions with diseases whose vectors are Culicidae mosquitoes. The behavior, attitudes, and actions of the community can influence the presence of mosquito larvae. Objective. To determine the types of mosquitoes, types of water storage containers, mosquito larvae density, and the relationship between behavior, attitudes, and actions towards the presence of Culicidae mosquitoes in Tanjung Beringin District, Serang Bedagai Regency. Method. The method used is the questionnaire method, interviews, and observations, mosquito larva collection, temperature measurement, and water acidity in water storage containers with a cross-sectional design. Results. From the 100 houses surveyed, Aedes aegypti larvae (17), Aedes albopictus larvae (7), Culex tritaeniorhynchus larvae (25), Culex mimulus larvae (7), Culex quinquefasciatus larvae (2), and Culex hutchinsoni larvae (1). A total of 250 water storage places (WSP) were found, of which 59 WSP contained mosquito larvae, consisting of puddles (11), swamps (2), buckets (14), ditches (12), drums (2), household waste (1), tubs (8), ponds (3), wells (4), coconut shells (1), and pots. (2). The WSP where most mosquito larvae were found was the bucket. The Culex tritaeniorhynchus mosquito larvae were most commonly found in the ditch. There is no relationship between behavior, attitude, and actions towards the presence of Culicidae mosquitoes based on the p-value (p<0.05). Conclusion. The most common type of WSP found was buckets (93). The most frequently found mosquito species was Culex tritaeniorhynchus in ditch-type WSPs. The characteristics of the WSP that are related to the presence of mosquitoes are the color of the WSP and the condition of the WSP cover. The temperature and pH conditions of the water do not have a relationship with the presence of Culicidae mosquito larvae. In this study, it was found that there is no relationship between behavior, attitudes, and actions towards the presence of Culicidae mosquitoes in Tanjung Beringin District, Serdang Bedagai Regency.
