| dc.description.abstract | Background. Leprosy is a chronic disease caused by M. leprae, which attacks the peripheral nerves, skin, and various organs, including the eyes. Even after leprosy treatment is complete, damage to the eyes can continue, including symptoms of dry eye syndrome. Therefore, eye detection in ex-leprosy patients is very important to prevent more serious eye complications. Objective. To determine the description of dry eye syndrome in ex-leprosy patients at Lau Simomo Leprosy Hospital in 2024. Methods. The type of research used is descriptive with a cross-sectional approach. Sampling was carried out using the total sampling method through interviews, medical records, and ocular ferning tests in ex-leprosy patients at Lau Simomo Leprosy Hospital in 2024. The subjects used were grouped based on age, gender, education level, occupation, type of leprosy, duration after released from treatment, and the results of the ferning pattern type. Results. This study showed that the majority of ex-leprosy patients at Lau Simomo Leprosy Hospital were late elderly (56-65 years) (41,9%), male (51,6%), had a final education of elementary school (58,1%), worked as farmers (74,2%), had a history of MB leprosy type (96,8%), had been released from treatment for >5 years (90,3%), had a type III ferning pattern in the left eye (OS) (77,4%), and had a type III ferning pattern in the right eye (OD) (74,2%). Conclusion. The majority of ex-leprosy patients at Lau Simomo Leprosy Hospital indicated to have dry eye syndrome, both in OS and OD. | en_US |
