Overview of Body Mass Index and Breast Cancer Aggressiveness in Breast Cancer Patients at RSUP H. Adam Malik Medan in 2023
Abstract
Background. Breast cancer is a condition where breast cells undergo uncontrolled growth, forming malignant tumors. According to the WHO and Indonesian Ministry of Health, the incidence of breast cancer ranks second in the world and first in Indonesia. Obesity is suspected to be related to the occurrence of breast cancer. Objective. To analyze the relationship between Body Mass Index (BMI) and the risk of breast cancer occurrence, as well as other clinicopathological factors such as age, gender, stage, and type of breast cancer. Methods. This study is an observational descriptive research with a cross-sectional approach. Data collection was conducted in the medical records department of RSUP H. Adam Malik Medan, with a minimum sample size of 93 patients. Results. Out of 100 patients, the largest BMI group was normal (42%), the most common age group was 46-55 years (46%), all patients were female (100%), the most common stage was stage III (70%), and the most common histopathological type of breast cancer was invasive carcinoma (88%). Conclusion. This research provides an overview regarding Body Mass Index (BMI) and breast cancer aggressiveness in breast cancer patients at RSUP H. Adam Malik Medan.
