Background. Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate is an antiviral drug commonly used in the treatment of chronic Hepatitis B to suppress viral replication and slow disease progression. Although treatment with Tenofovir has proven effective in controlling the infection, its long-term effects on kidney function in patients need further evaluation. Therefore, it is important to monitor changes in kidney function, particularly through the parameter of glomerular filtration rate (GFR), which can be affected by the therapy. This study aims to explore the impact of Tenofovir treatment on kidney function in Hepatitis B patients. Objective. This study aims to analyze changes in kidney function, measured by the glomerular filtration rate (GFR), in Hepatitis B patients receiving treatment with Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate. The study compares kidney function in patients before and after treatment to evaluate the potential side effects on kidney health. Method. This study employed a longitudinal analytic design involving 57 Hepatitis B patients, consisting of 42 patients with chronic Hepatitis B and 15 patients with acute Hepatitis B. Data on kidney function were collected from patients' medical records before and after treatment. The Paired Samples T-Test was used to analyze the differences in kidney function before and after treatment. Results. The results of the study showed a decrease in the average GFR after treatment with Tenofovir. However, the difference found was not statistically significant (p > 0.05), indicating that Tenofovir treatment did not have a significant impact on kidney function during the observed treatment period. The large variability in patient responses suggests the need for further monitoring, especially in patients with higher risk factors. Conclusion. This study concludes that although no significant decrease in kidney function was observed after treatment with Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate, routine monitoring of kidney function is still necessary, particularly in patients with chronic Hepatitis B, to identify potential long-term side effects.
