dc.description.abstractIntroduction. Obesity is one of the diseases that occurs due to an imbalance between energy intake and energy expenditure. The prevalence of obesity in Indonesia based on Body Mass Index in the age group of 13–15 years reaches 5.1% and in the age group of 16–18 years 4.3%. Weight gain is caused by the lifestyle of teenagers who like to consume fast food. Objectives. This study aims to determine the relationship between fast food consumption and the occurrence of obesity. Method. The research conducted analytically used a cross-sectional study design. The research sample consists of seventh-grade students from Madrasah Tsanawiyah Khadijah who meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria and were selected using the probability sampling method with proportionate stratified random sampling type. Research data were collected through interviews with subjects regarding the frequency of fast food consumption and anthropometric examinations to measure weight, height, and body mass index. Result. The prevalence of obesity among seventh-grade students at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Khadijah is 17.9%. They frequently consume fast food, accounting for 74.6%. The median energy intake value is 2508,6 kcal. Statistical test results using the Chisquare test show a relationship between fast food consumption and obesity (p =0,019) and a relationship between energy intake value and obesity (p = 0.021). Conclusion. There is a relationship between the frequency of fast food consumption and obesity. There is a relationship between energy intake and obesity.en_US
