dc.description.abstract | Background: Acute Otitis Media (AOM) is an inflammation of the middle ear lasting less than 3 weeks, caused by bacterial or viral infection. Age and gender are among the risk factors for AOM. Objective: To analyze the relationship between age and gender with the incidence of AOM at Prof. dr. Chairuddin P. Lubis Hospital, Universitas Sumatera Utara. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional design with 102 patients selected based on medical record data. Statistical analysis was performed using the chi-square test with a significance level of 5%. Results: Among a the total of 102 patients, 56.9% had AOM. Males showed a higher prevalence (67.1%) than females, with a p=0.002 value indicating a significant association between gender with AOM incidence. The age group of 46-65 years had a higher risk, with p=0.000 indicating a significant association between age with AOM incidence. Conclusions There was a significant association between age and gender on the incidence of OMA, with a higher prevalence in men and the elderly. | en_US |
