    Abstract
Introduction. Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic condition characterized by an abnormal increase in blood sugar levels, known as hyperglycemia. Objective. To compare the effectiveness of reducing blood glucose levels through the administration of soursop leaf extract (Annona muricata L.) and papaya leaf extract (Carica papaya L.) in Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus). Methods. This study used a true experimental design with a pretest-posttest with control group design. The test animals were divided into 7 groups, each consisting of 4 rats with 2 control groups and 4 treatment groups. Data were analyzed using One Way ANOVA with a significance p-value < 0.05. Results and Discussion The results showed a single dose of papaya leaf extract was more effective in lowering blood glucose levels compared to all test groups. However, higher doses of extract did not necessarily correlate with a better reduction in blood glucose levels. The One Way ANOVA analysis showed no significant difference in blood glucose reduction among the groups, with a p-value < 0.05. Conclusion. The comparison of effectiveness in this study revealed that the most consistent and gradual reduction in blood glucose levels in rats, following metformin (positive control group), was achieved with papaya leaf extract (Carica papaya L.) at a dose of 400 mg/kg body weight.
