Adaptation of Church Congregations During the Covid-19 Pandemic: An Ethnographic Study on the Western Indonesian Protestant Church (Gpib) Immanuel Congregation in Medan
Abstract
The research in this thesis is entitled ADAPTATION OF CHURCH CONGREGATIONS DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC: AN ETHNOGRAPHIC STUDY ON THE WESTERN INDONESIAN PROTESTANT CHURCH (GPIB) OF THE IMMANUEL CONGREGATION
MEDAN). It explained how the adaptation was carried out by the Western Indonesian Protestant Church of the Immanuel Medan Congregation during the Covid-19 Pandemic.
The purpose of this study is to find out the impact of the Covid-19 Pandemic on church activities in the field of daily ministry, as due to the Covid-19 Pandemic there are several forms of services that must be changed and updated in their ways and applications to the field of daily ministry.
This research uses the ethnographic method and in collecting this data, the author participates directly in the activities of the GPIB Immanuel Medan church, and conducts in-depth interviews to get the desired data. The author also obtained data through literature studies in the form of writings related to the title of this research.
The results of this study show that the ability of humans to adapt during the Covid-19 Pandemic, especially in the GPIB Immanuel Medan congregation, has resulted in the emergence of new habits in daily congregational life, namely the use of technology, especially social media, in improving the quality of religious values that are more idealistic in terms of spirituality.
