Women's Contribution in Fulfilling Family Needs (Case Study of Women Parking Workers in Bencah Lesung Village, Pekanbaru City)
Abstract
In the world of work, we find many women working in the formal and informal sectors. It cannot be denied that the female population is almost close to the male population. A woman in the household can make quite a big contribution in ensuring their survival, especially the contribution economically. In Bencah Lesung Village, Pekanbaru City, the cost of living to meet family needs is very high. In meeting their daily needs, women work as parking workers, with their income still relatively low or small compared to their large expenses. Now, in meeting the daily needs of the family, a wife who is supposed to take care of the household now also takes a role in meeting the needs of family members by joining in the work. The problem formulation of this research is how women are involved in family economic activities by becoming parking attendants and how women contribute to meeting family needs. The type of research used in this research is descriptive qualitative research, with data collection techniques, namely interviews, observation and documentation. From the research, it was found that the majority of female parking workers in Bencah Lesung Village, Pekanbaru City are housewives. So these female parking workers can be said to play multiple roles with the aim of meeting family needs. Through this dual role, female parking attendants can help meet family needs. Researchers also concluded that the driving factor for female parking attendants to work was the difficulty of finding work elsewhere while family needs were increasing. This provides awareness to women to work as parking attendants.
