Factors Associated to The Occurrence of Diabetic Ulcers in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Patients at Haji Adam Malik Hospital Medan
Abstract
Background. Diabetes mellitus can be defined as a condition where glucose levels increase beyond normal values. Patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) have a 29 times risk of developing diabetic ulcer complications. Patients with DM as much as 15-25% have the potential to develop diabetic ulcers during their lifetime. The incidence of diabetic ulcers in Indonesia reaches 15%, 30% for amputation rate, and 32% for mortality rate. Objective. This study aims to determine the factors associated with the incidence of diabetic ulcers in patients with DM type 2 at Haji Adam Malik Hospital Medan. Methods. This research was designed using an observational research that is analytical with a cross-sectional study approach. Data obtained using secondary data medical records with consecutive sampling technique and analyzed by frequency distribution test, Chi Square and Spearman's rho. Results. The analysis showed that the most influential factors were hypertension factor p-value< 0.001 with OR 12.056, dyslipidemia p-value< 0.001 with OR 9.455, age p-value 0.011 with OR 3.551, and duration of diabetes p-value 0.040 with OR 3.189. Conclusion. There are signification relationship between age, dyslipidemia, hypertension, and duration of DM with the incidence of diabetic ulcers.
