Abstract
Background. The increasing use of gadgets across various groups, including
university students, can impact health, particularly related to neck pain. Neck pain, as
a consequence of excessive gadget use, can lead to symptoms like fatigue, stiffness, and
even disability, which interfere with daily activities. Objective. This study aims to
analyze the relationship between the gadget usage time and the incidence of neck pain
among students in the Faculty of Medicine at Universitas Sumatera Utara. Methods.
This study is a descriptive-analytic research with a cross-sectional approach, involving
300 students from the classes of 2021, 2022, and 2023 as the research population. Data
collection was conducted using a questionnaire. Bivariate analysis was performed
using the Spearman Rank correlation test to assess the relationship between the gadget
usage time and neck pain intensity. Results. Out of 300 respondents, 72.3% reported
experiencing neck pain, with most using gadgets in a seated position. The analysis
indicated a significant relationship between the gadget usage time and the incidence
of neck pain, with a weak correlation strength. Conclusion. Gadget usage time has a
