This research aims to analyze the characteristics of patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Prof. Dr. Chairuddin Panusunan Lubis Hospital, Universitas Sumatera Utara, during the period of 2022-2023. The study uses data collected from patient medical records, with a total sample of 229 patients, consisting of 111 male patients and 118 female patients. The majority of patients were over 67 years old, with a total of 80 samples. The most common primary diagnoses among patients were sepsis (35.8%), stroke (16.2%), pneumonia (7.4%), ARDS (1.7%), pulmonary edema (0.4%) and others (22.7%). The most prevalent comorbidities were hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and chronic kidney disease, accounting for 49 cases (21.4%). The most frequently performed medical intervention was intubation, with 125 procedures (54.6%), while the most commonly prescribed antibiotics were in combination, with 118 prescriptions (51.5%). The ICU mortality rate was recorded at 88.2%. The findings of this study provide a comprehensive overview of ICU patient characteristics, which can serve as a reference for improving healthcare services at the hospital.
