Introduction. Many physiological and morphological changes occur due to aging. Injection of D-galactose caused histological damage and increased oxidative stress in rat liver and kidney tissues. Long-term oxidative stress is linked to the complicated aging process and is caused by increased ROS. The use of herbal plants as antioxidants needs to be developed because they can function to reduce free radicals so as to prevent oxidative damage. Objective. To assess the effect of ethanol extract of andaliman (Zanthoxylum acanthopodium DC.) on microscopic liver and kidney damage in D-galactose-induced aging model rats. Method. Experimental dengan post-test only control group design using four groups of rats, namely the negative control group, positive control induced by D-galactose 150 mg/kgbw/day for 8 weeks, and treatment groups with andaliman ethanol extract 150 mg/kgbw/day and 300 mg/kgbw/day for 8 weeks. Results and Discussion. When administered at a dose of 300 mg/kg BW, andaliman ethanol extract protects against kidney and liver damage. When compared to the control group, the group that received a high dose of andaliman extract had much less bleeding and hepatocyte cell necrosis and steatosis, according to liver histopathology. The glomerulus and renal tubules of the kidneys also improved, with less edema and necrosis. Conclusion. Ethanol extract of andaliman has potential as a hepatoprotective and nephroprotective agent in reducing organ damage due to aging.
