Factors Affecting Early Marriage among Women in Bulusonik Village, Barumun District
Abstract
Early marriage is a marriage conducted by men and women under the age of 19. Women who marry early are vulnerable to health problems such as miscarriage, anemia, hemorrhage, malnutrition, maternal death, premature birth, low birth weight, congenital anomalies, infection, and infant mortality. Factors affecting early marriage are identified for prevention efforts. This research aims to describe the factors affecting early marriage among the women in Bulusonik Village, Barumun District. The affecting factors are grouped based on the social-ecological model, consisting of individual, interpersonal, and community/societal levels. This research uses quantitative method with total sampling technique. The population encompasses women who married under the age of 19 during the period from 2019 to 2023, with a sample size of 42 women. The research results show that all respondents are affected by the factors at individual, interpersonal, and community/societal levels. Health education about early marriage is needed in Bulusonik Village, Barumun District.
