The Correlation of Family Support and Medication Adherence of Pulmonary TB Patients at Working Area of Public Health Center (Puskesmas) Kota Datar Village, Hamparan Perak Subdistrict
Abstract
Tuberculosis (TB), an infectious disease, is the second leading cause of death caused by a single infectious agent. It can be cured if patients strictly adhere to the medication prescribed by healthcare workers. However, non-adherence to medication may result in Anti-Tuberculosis Drugs (OAT) resistance. A key factor contributing to OAT resistance is the lack of family support. Therefore, family support is essential for enhancing medication adherence among pulmonary TB patients. This Research aims to examine the correlation between family support and medication adherence of pulmonary TB patients at the working area of Puskesmas Kota Datar Village, Hamparan Perak Subdistrict. This is a quantitative Research with a cross-sectional design involving 31 pulmonary TB patients from the working area of Puskesmas Kota Datar Village, Hamparan Perak Subdistrict, serving as the respondents. Data are collected using questionnaires that have passed validity and reliability tests. The Spearman Rho statistical test reveals a significant correlation between family support and medication adherence in pulmonary TB patients, resulting in a p-value = 0.000 (<0.05). The findings of this Research are expected to serve as an evaluation tool for healthcare workers, highlighting the importance of improving education on the family support and enhancing health education specifically regarding medication adherence among pulmonary TB patients and their families to prevent OAT resistance.
