The Level of Adherence to Taking Medication in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Patients at H. Adam Malik General Hospital
Abstract
ABSTRACT
Diabetes is the main health problem throughout the world. Diabetes Mellitus (DM) type 2 is a common type of diabetes which contributes more than 90% of the case. One of the ways to control it is by adhering of taking medicines. The objective of the research is to find out the level of adherence to taking medicines in DM Type 2 patients in RSUP H. Adam Malik, Medan. The research uses descriptive analytic method. The data are collected in June, 2024, using consecutive sampling technique with cross-sectional approach in order to observe them in a certain moment. The research subjects are DM Type 2 patients in the outpatient wards of RSUP H. Adam Malik, Medan, who take hypoglycemic oral drugs. This research uses questionnaire on Morisky Medication Adherence Scale 8 Items (MMAS-8), containing 8 questions with 3 types of categorization: low, moderate, and high. The result of the research shows that of the 32 respondents, 15.6% of them have low category of adherence, 56.3% of them have moderate category of adherence, and 28.1% of them have high category of adherence. The conclusion is that the level of adherence to taking medicines in DM Type 2 patients at RSUP H. Adam Malik, Medan, is categorized as moderate level of adherence.
