Analysis of the Effect of Wastegate Cloggation on the Pressure Discharge Response in the Turbocharger of a CC 201 Rail Locomotive Using Simulink
Abstract
Railway locomotives have an important role in land transportation, especially in transporting goods and passengers in large quantities and over long distances. In 2024, the majority of locomotives operated by PT Kereta Api Indonesia will be diesel locomotives. The percentage reaches around 95%, with only a small portion being electric and steam locomotives used for historical or special purposes. The operational efficiency and reliability of this locomotive is very dependent on the performance of the turbocharger, a critical component that functions to increase engine power by utilizing exhaust gas energy. The turbocharger on this locomotive is equipped with a wastegate, a valve that regulates exhaust gas flow to control turbo pressure. However, one of the problems that often occurs is wastegate blockage. This research aims to develop a mathematical model of the turbocharger system on the CC 201 locomotive using Simulink, and analyze the effect of wastegate blockage on the pressure discharge response. Based on the control system response, Rise Time (Tr): 0.036 seconds, Peak Time (Tp): 0.727 seconds, Overshoot (Mp): 16.3%, Settling Time (Ts): 0.16 seconds.
