dc.description.abstract | The 2020 Regional Head Election in Pematang Siantar City was won by Asner Silalahi-Susanti Dewapayani who were the only candidate pair for mayor and deputy mayor by sweeping all political parties in Pematang Siantar City. The purpose of this study was to describe the reasons why political parties supported the Asner-Susanti candidate pair and how pragmatism in political party communication in the single candidate pair in the 2020 Pematang Siantar City Regional Head Election. The theories used in this study are political party theory, political communication and political pragmatism. The research method used to answer this research is the descriptive qualitative research method, through literature studies, observations and interviews. The results of the study found the following, political parties support the Asner-Susanti Pair based on quality and electability, it is known that considerations for support for Asner-Susanti start from the background of Asner Silalahi and Susanti Dewayani, electability to the financial readiness of the candidate pair. The communication process of Asner and Susanti in carrying out political communication strategies, several strategies in gaining support from political parties, first, namely by carrying out a planned program plan (a directed course of action) second, Asner is described as a figure who consistently works as a public servant by working and serving in the PUPR Service so that in terms of public service. While Susanti is described as a frontline doctor to encourage the recovery of Pematangsiantar City during the Covid-19 pandemic. The political communication process carried out by Asner's team in convincing political parties is by offering themselves to the supporting party first, namely the PDI Perjuangan Party as the supporting base, this process is considered quite difficult and requires more effort, then the Asner and PDI Perjuangan teams formed a coalition by convincing the National Mandate Party and Golongan Karya, National Democrats to join the coalition to gain support, after the big parties gave their support, small parties such as the PKPI Party, Hanura, PPP and PKS voluntarily joined the Asner Susanti coalition. | en_US |
