Karakterisasi Termoplastik Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) dengan Filler Silika Abu Boiler Kelapa Sawit (ABKS) yang Disintesis Menggunakan Metode Kopresipitasi
Characterization of Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) Thermoplastics with Silica Filler of Palm Oil Boiler Ash (POBA) Using The Coprecipitation Method
Abstract
The manufacture of Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) thermoplastic with palm oil
boiler ash silica filler has been carried out using the coprecipitation method. The
synthesis of palm oil boiler ash silica (POBA) was carried out using H2SO4 5M and
NH4OH 5M solvents with a ratio of 1:4. The synthesized silica was then tested using
XRD and obtained an average size of 105 nm. Based on the results of the XRF test,
it is known that there are 56,73% SiO2 compounds and the most abundant element,
namely Si 43.47%. The composition of each; LDPE silica ABKS is varied by weight
of 100/0, 98/2, 96/4, 94/6 and 92/8 % respectively and performs mechanical
properties (tensile strength, elongation at break and modulus of elasticity). The
results of the mechanical test were obtained with the highest tensile strength value in
the composition of 98/2% of 10,52 MPa, the highest % elongation value of 100/0%
weight of 201,4% and the highest elastic modulus value of 92/8% of weight of
221,47 MPa. This value meets the standard value of LDPE type polyethylene
thermoplastic. The addition of POBA silica as a filler was proven to be able to
improve the mechanical properties of LDPE thermoplastics in tensile strength and
elastic modulus, but there was a decrease in the % value of elongation at break in
LDPE filled with ABKS silica filler compared to pure LDPE.
